Green Slime and a Ham

Washington,,D.c.,United,States,-,May,12,,2026:,Tourists,Standing

Is President Trump the slime or is he the ham?  Take your pick; he’s always a terrible ham, and as one of the greatest con men who ever lived, he’s about as slimy as they come.  I’ll stop now before poor Dr. Seuss turns over in his grave.

How fitting that the company that installed the new water-purification system in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool is called “Greenwater” Services, as if making sure that algae accumulation turns water green is their specialty. (Is there really a market for speedy algae growth?) In exchange for paying a total of over $16 million to refurbish the pool, American taxpayers not only got the accelerated algae growth but Trump’s brand-new “America Flag Blue” waterproofing (installed by a separate company) started coming off almost immediately. (In fairness, this may have been caused by National Park workers trying to kill the algae by using hydrogen peroxide.) As if things weren’t bad enough, in a Friday night post Trump blamed vandalism by “radical left lunatics, most likely Dumocats, who have spent their lives trying to ruin our Country.” Yeah, sure, why not blame the Iranians while he’s at it?  Is there anything Trump won’t try to pin on his political opponents?

Despite denials by the Park Service, it appears that Trump once again avoided going through the proper procurement process and hired inexperienced companies owned by Republican donors, i.e., another of his endless list of cronies that are available for almost any occasion. (As algae is seemingly not their forte, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg can all count their lucky stars they got passed over for the Reflecting Pool gig.) Is there anything Trump can’t turn into a grift, anything in America he won’t sell if the proceeds go in his coffers? As Minnesota governor Tim Walz said, Trump “Found an imaginary problem, said only he could fix it, didn’t listen to experts, hired buddies who grifted millions, failed miserably, bragged how great it went. The entire Trump presidency in a nutshell.” And talk about a metaphor for the mess Trump has made for himself in Iran…

Whether it Be the Iranians or Algae, Why Doesn’t Trump Understand the Enemy is Bound to Fight Back?

Indeed, it would appear the silly megalomaniac was fresh off his successful attack on Venezuela, didn’t understand that Iran is a totally different country (its population is almost three times larger), and never considered the possibility that traffic on the Strait of Hormuz would be disrupted, along with 20% of the world’s energy supply, not just oil but natural gas. Thwarting Iran’s nuclear ambitions is a noble goal but mightn’t someone in his administration warned him about the risks involved?  We know that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is a raving idiot who’s performing a cartoon character’s version of military leadership (he should stick to fighting diversity in the military and leave America’s foreign adversaries to the adults!), but one would think that Secretary of State Rubio or General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, would know better. The result is a geo-political and economic disaster of historical proportions, something a heck of a lot bigger, more expensive, and more difficult to clean up than any reflecting pool.

Just as the Reflecting Pool has more algae now than when the work began, Iran is in a far better strategic position now than when Trump started his war.  If one can even take the latest in the never-ending series of proposed “deals” seriously, Iran gets everything it wants while the U.S. gets nothing it didn’t already have—except possibly a way out for Trump before the midterm elections and potential economic disaster for America and the world. (The latest such deal is termed a “memorandum of understanding” and is really nothing but a list of topics that should be included in an actual agreement.) It would appear that Trump has checkmated himself with no way out of the disaster his megalomania has created, and his old creepy lawyer and mentor Roy Cohn isn’t around to get him out of it.
